Cryo-EM Platform

A cryo electron microscope is a transmission electron microscope that observes samples at cryogenic conditions.

Samples were cooled through rapid freezing, which preserve their native condition. With a range of cryo-EM methods, we can obtain a variety of information from near-atomic resolution protein structures to cellular architecture, which would allow to understand biological phenomena with a new perspective. Cryo-EM has been contributing to cancer, neurodegenerative disease, infectious disease researches. It is also being used for developing new drugs for membrane proteins, which have been difficult to gain structural information.

Recently, Baobab AiBIO has built the state-of-art cryo-EM facility. With various cryo-EM techniques including single particle analysis (SPA), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), and microcrystal electron diffraction (microED), we will analyze not only interactions between protein and ligand but also intracellular structures, which would provide key clues to develop new drugs.

Titan Krios G4 Cryo-TEM with Falcon 4 and Selectris X

Our Titan Krios G4 cryo-TEM (300 kV TEM) is the Korea’s first 300 kv TEM, equips with Falcon 4 direct electron detector and Selectris X imaging filter together.With this combination, we will discover various structural information with unprecedented resolution.

Glacios Cryo-TEM with Falcon 4

Glacios (200 kV TEM) equips Falcon 4 and Ceta D detectors. It will be used for screening samples and collecting highresolution data. With Ceta D detector, it will obtain diffraction data from microcrystals (microED).

Aquilos

Aquilos 2 Cryo-FIB (with iFLM)

With the latest cryo-DualBeam system, Aquilos 2 prepares thin lamellas for cryo-ET and microED of micro crystals. It can automatically produce multiple lamellas from specific locations and extract the lamella of interest with cryo-lift-out solution. For preparing a sample with the right location, iFLM correlative system will be installed in near future.
